Does Pennsylvania Owe You $1,000? $135 Million in Unclaimed Property Waiting in Bucks County

The Pennsylvania Treasury might have money with your name on it—and you may not even know it.

According to State Treasurer Stacy Garrity, more than $135 million in unclaimed property is waiting to be returned to residents of Bucks County, with the average claim exceeding $1,000.

If you live in Pennsylvania, now’s the time to check if you or your loved ones are due a payout.

How Much Is Owed?

  • $135 million in Bucks County alone

  • $5 billion statewide

  • Average claim: Over $1,000 per person

  • Over 1 in 10 Pennsylvanians are owed unclaimed property

Over the past four years, more than $35 million has already been returned to Bucks County residents—but many more are still eligible.

How to Check If You're Owed Money

It’s quick and free. Just visit the official state database: patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property

There, you can:

  • Search for your name (and family members)

  • File a claim online

  • Upload ID and supporting documents

  • Track your claim status

If the property is a physical item (such as jewelry from a safe deposit box), the state may auction it after 3 years, but you can still claim the proceeds at any time.

What Is the PA Money Match Program?

In May, the Treasury launched a Money Match program, which automatically returns unclaimed property worth up to $500 to rightful owners—no action needed, just verification through state records.

Even if you received a notice from the program, the Treasury urges you to search the database—you may be entitled to even more than the automated amount.
